On Friday the 14th of November we gathered at the Cemetery in Helwan to celebrate the Mass in memory of the deceased confreres and sisters, as well as to pray for the faithful departed of Helwan Parish, especially those buried in the cemetery. Monsignor Claudio Lurati, mccj, Apostolic Vicar of Alexandria of Egypt, presided the Mass, which was attended by the confreres of Helwan Community, some confreres from other communities, the Comboni sisters of Helwan and Zamalek, and a number of christians from Helwan parish.

The Mass in the cemetery has been a tradition for decades now, and one which the people feel and attend in a special way. Although it is usually done on the 2nd of November, the attendance was still significant. It was a moment of hope and faith, as Monsignor Claudio said in his homily, commenting the Gospel of the Beatitudes (Mt 5, 1-12). We prayed for the brothers and sisters who went ahead and are purifying, but we also asked their prayer to accompany us on our journey, knowing that the destination is the same, and it is the loving embrace of the Father. We concluded the celebration sprinkling with holy water the faithful and the tombs, alive ans dead united in the memory of our Baptism and the hope of the Resurrection with Christ.
