St. Bakhita Center Celebrates Silver Jubilee

With hearts full of gratitude, and with the first beat of the drum of the Scout ever, the St. Bakhita Center in Arbawnus joyfully celebrated its Silver Jubilee on September 14, 2025, marking 25 years since the land for the center was first purchased. The center since the beginning services Sudanese and South Sudanese refugees, in Education and pastoral activities!

The celebration began with a solemn Holy Mass, presided over by Monsignor Claudio Lurati, the Apostolic Vicar. The event was blessed with the presence of many Comboni Missionaries, Comboni Missionary Sisters, and a vibrant gathering of Sudanese and South Sudanese faithful, along with several longtime friends and supporters of the center.

As part of the celebration, the Organizing Committee shared key moments from the history of the center, reflecting on how God’s hand has guided its growth in both faith and community over the past two and a half decades. Their message was echoed by the words of Scripture:

“So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.” — Acts 16:5

A particularly touching moment was the recognition of several individuals who have been part of the center since its very beginning — a living testimony to the faithfulness and perseverance of the community.

The day was filled with joy, hope, and reflection, as attendees witnessed how God has continually walked with them. As the center now faces new challenges — particularly with many community members displaced by the ongoing war in Sudan — the Jubilee served as a powerful reminder of God’s continued presence and the community’s unshakable faith that He will keep walking with them in the journey ahead.
