The Catholic Church of Aswan had a very meaningful story. Since the arrival of Bishop Roveggio, the second successor of Saint Daniel Comboni. Since then, a good Christians community was founded. The church made her way and, according to the story, the foreigners have to leave Aswan. Then the number of the Christians of the latin catholic church reduced considerably and sometimes the missionaries have to celebrate with the tourists who were passing by. So far, the church opened a chaplaincy of Coptic Catholic Church.

After so many years of evangelization, the Comboni missionaries have to restart from zero with a Sudanese community leaving in the periphery of the parish. Even if, some of them arrived in Aswan many years ago, the majority arrived with the situation of the war in Sudan, since two years now. They are Christians from the latin Catholic Church. But there is a lot work to do whether with the health problem or food. Most of our Sudanese Christians are leaving in Sadaka, in the periphery of the town. As Pope Francis was inviting to go to the periphery, the Comboni missionaries are going every week to visit. Sadaka in Arabic means friendship. This friendship is what we are having with them and it is giving them hope and they are also a hope of life for the latin catholic church in Aswan. although the Comboni missionaries have to start the catechism, teaching them the doctrine of our faith, some Christians songs, and some prayers, but they have now to provide a place of education for the children and health care for the sick. As our founder Saint Daniel Comboni said: “I see a happy future for Africa”, we can see a happy future for this new Sudanese Christian community of Aswan. Nowadays, there are around three hundred Sudanese Christians leaving in the periphery of the parish, with a lot of children and youth. They hope to have one day a school and some facilities that can make them forget their previous live in the situation of was.
